What to do in the Faroe Islands

In connection with UArctic Congress 2026 and the Ocean Connectivity Conference, a curated selection of guided excursions and outdoor experiences is available for Congress participants, available from 23 to 30 May 2026.
The excursions provide a wide range of opportunities to experience the islands, including scenic bus tours, boat trips along dramatic sea cliffs, guided hikes through historic landscapes, and cycling tours with local guides. The activities vary in duration and difficulty level and are designed to highlight both the natural environment and cultural heritage of the Faroe Islands.
All excursions are operated by local providers and must be booked directly with each provider. Please see the options below for more information and bookingdetails.

Visit Tórshavn
For tours, excursions, and local experiences in and around Tórshavn, we encourage participants to visit Visit Tórshavn’s website, featuring guided tours, hiking trips, boat excursions, food experiences, sightseeing tours, and activities taking place during the Congress week.
Whether you wish to explore the Faroese landscape, experience local culture, or discover hidden gems around Tórshavn, there are plenty of opportunities to make the most of your stay in the Faroe Islands.
Living with the Ocean - A Travelling Exhibition, presented by UArctic Congress 2026 participants, Lilli Mittner and Jorge Santos, will be open during the Congress days on Niels Finsens gøta 2. The exhibition opens on Tuesday 26 May at 16:00-16:30. Read more here.
Remove to Restore is a community volunteering event to protect Faroese biodiversity. It ltakes place on 30 May, and locals and visitors are invited to join this hands-on volunteering event focused on protecting Faroese biodiversity by helping remove the invasive plant Garden Lady’s Mantle (“skøra”).
Participants will work alongside local nature experts in selected areas across Tórshavn before gathering for food, drinks, and a social event at Perlan afterwards.

Enjoy
A selection of guided tours and experiences is available during the Congress week through Enjoy. Participants can explore the Faroe Islands through hiking tours, boat trips, sightseeing excursions, cultural experiences, and guided bike tours.

Eysturkommuna
Eysturkommuna offers cultural and local experiences during the Congress week, providing participants with an opportunity to explore Faroese traditions, nature, and community life in the eastern region of the Faroe Islands.

Visit the Sheep Shed (available 27, 28 and 29 May at 15:00)
Get close to the lambs as they play or rest, and let the farmer show you around his farm while sharing stories about traditional sheep farming in the Faroe Islands. Afterwards, you will be invited to taste traditional dried meat (skerpikjøt) served on homemade bread. The visit takes about one hour. Please note: Wear shoes suitable for farm conditions.

Visit the dairy farm (available 25 & 27 May at 13:00)
Visit Varmakeldugarður, a modern dairy farm with cows and calves. Enjoy a light meal in the cosy loft while observing the cows through the window. During the visit, the farmer’s wife will share the story of the farm. The visit takes about 1.5 hours.
