Travel Visa & Invitation Letters

Participants are advised to check in advance whether a visa and/or an invitation letter is required to travel to the Faroe Islands.
Travel visas
Whether you need a visa to enter the Faroe Islands depends on your nationality. Citizens of visa-free countries, including the Nordic countries, may enter the Faroe Islands without a visa for short stays of up to 90 days.
Citizens of countries with a visa requirement must hold a visa that is explicitly valid for entry to the Faroe Islands. A visa for Denmark or another Schengen country is not valid for entry to the Faroe Islands, as the Faroe Islands are not part of the EU or the Schengen Area.
Most travel to the Faroe Islands takes place via a Schengen country, typically Denmark. If you require a visa, you may therefore need both a Schengen visa for transit and a separate visa valid for the Faroe Islands.
Visa applications for the Faroe Islands follow the same procedure as for a Danish visa and are handled by Danish embassies and consulates abroad. If you need both a Schengen visa and a Faroe Islands visa, only one application is required.
Invitation letters
Participants who require an invitation letter to travel to the Faroe Islands may indicate this during the registration process. They will then be asked to provide their passport number, which will be included in the confirmation email. This confirmation can be used as a formal invitation letter for a visa application.
We kindly ask participants to allow sufficient time for processing when planning their visa application.
