Welcome Messages

Djóni Nolsøe Joensen
The Minister of Children and Education

As a small nation in the middle of the Atlantic, we look to our neighbours in the south and to the vast Arctic to the north with a burning wish for active participation and shared responsibility. For stepping into the world is also to invite the world in. That is why I am truly pleased that the Faroe Islands have been given the opportunity to host this important congress.

Sirið Stenberg
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Industry and Trade

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is proud to co-host the upcoming UArctic Congress as the Faroe Islands assume the Chairship of the Arctic Council, in close cooperation with Greenland and Denmark. Hosting this event is a great honour and a chance to highlight our shared Arctic priorities – especially the future of our oceans, which our nation and other Arctic partners deeply depend on.

The Congress will bring together researchers, policymakers, and communities to exchange knowledge, ideas, and inspiration across the Arctic and the wider global community. This collaboration will support key Chairship priorities and strengthen our commitment to sustainable development and Arctic cooperation.

Jóhan Christiansen
The Minister of Fisheries and Infrastructure

It is a great privilege for the Faroe Islands to host next year’s UArctic Congress, bringing together leading minds in climate, marine, and environmental research. Access to the latest research and scientific knowledge is essential for making evidence-based decisions on the sustainable management of our environment and biological resources. This conference is an invaluable opportunity to strengthen the bridge between science and policy in the Arctic region, and we are proud to be a part of it

Elsa Berg
The Mayor of Torshavn

For host city Tórshavn, this event reinforces its role as a university city and strengthens its place in the global academic network. The municipality actively invests in sustainable development and innovation, attracting international conferences that align with its long-term vision.

Lars Kullerud
The President of the UArctic

For the 2026 Congress, we are delighted to be hosted by the University of the Faroe Islands, one of UArctic’s members in the Kingdom of Denmark. As a collaborative network of 200+ institutions dedicated to education and research in and about the North, UArctic’s mission is to develop knowledge to address local and global challenges relevant to Arctic Peoples and societies. We believe that by bringing together a diverse range of perspectives, we can collectively contribute to a thriving and sustainable Arctic. With the Congress attracting participants from a rich and varied set of backgrounds and organizations, from Arctic and non-Arctic nations, the event is a fantastic opportunity to establish new connections, find collaborators, and address the pressing issues facing us today. I look forward to seeing you all in Tórshavn!

Martin Tvede Zachariasen
The Rector of the University of the Faroe Islands

It is a great honour for the University of the Faroe Islands to host the UArctic Congress for the first time. As a small island nation in the North Atlantic, we are deeply committed to strengthening scientific collaboration across borders and disciplines. This event brings together researchers, policymakers, and communities to share knowledge and shape sustainable futures. At the University, we believe in science that matters – grounded in our unique environment and open to the world. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing ideas, insights, and inspiration.
