Chief Bill Erasmus

Council Member of the Arctic Athabaskan Council

Chief Bill Erasmus is Council Member of the Arctic Athabaskan Council. He is a Dene citizen of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation born in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada and has spent much of his career in his homeland of Denendeh. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from the University of Alberta.

From 1987 to 2018 he held a position as Dene National Chief and has been a member of the Assembly of First Nations Executive Committee since 1992. Erasmus has received a Governor General commemorative medal and the Queen's Golden Jubilee Commemorative Medal.

Chief Erasmus has contributed to his people throughout his professional life as a fieldworker, reporter, photographer, researcher and negotiator. Erasmus is a visionary leader with wide knowledge and strong leadership skills and incorporates his philosophy of connection to the land, community and nation to resolve conflicts and to be an instrument of change.
