Call for Abstract Proposals is now open

Please note: The deadline for abstract submissions has been extended to 15 January 2026.

We are happy to announce that the Call for Abstract Proposals for the UArctic Congress 2026 is now open!

We invite abstract proposals aligned with the sessions that have been accepted. When submitting, authors are instructed to select the relevant session from a list shown during the submission process and available also here.

The themes of the UArctic Congress 2026 follow The Kingdom of Denmark’s Arctic Council Chairship priorities, focusing on climate change, sustainable development, and the well-being of Arctic peoples.

We welcome abstracts under the following six main themes:

1. Sustainable Economic Development and International Cooperation

2. Oceans

3. Climate Change in the Arctic

4. Biodiversity

5. Indigenous Peoples and Northern Communities

6. Other

Session and Presentation Formats:

Sessions at the UArctic Congress 2026 include oral presentations, poster presentations, panel discussions and roundtable discussions. These sessions are either open for abstract submissions or closed, meaning that session owners are responsible for selecting and confirming speakers for their session (closed sessions are still open for all registered Congress participants to attend).

Workshops and meetings will also take place and are, in most cases, closed – both in terms of selecting active participants and general attendance. However, this may vary depending on the purpose of the session. The “owner” of the workshop or meeting is responsible for coordinating with the Congress organisers to clarify expected participant numbers and agree on any specific requirements, ensuring that suitable facilities and arrangements can be made in due time.

In summary:

  • Abstracts are required for oral presentations, poster presentations, panel discussions, and roundtable discussions that are open for submissions.
  • Closed sessions do not require abstracts, but session owners must submit a list of speakers by the deadline of 15 January 2026.
  • Workshops and meetings will also take place but do not require abstract submissions.

All sessions will be held exclusively onsite at the arena við Tjarnir, at Atlagøta, Hoyvík, Faroe Islands.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

  • Abstract proposals require a title, abstract (max 150 words), author contact details in addition to replying to several mandatory questions during the submission.
  • Open sessions will accept abstracts from 1 November 2025 – 15 January 2026. Session duration is 55 minutes, and each presentation should not exceed 10 minutes.
  • The duration and format of each presentation will be determined by the session owner, depending on the number and quality of accepted abstracts.
  • The Oxford Abstracts system will send an automatic confirmation message once the abstract has been successfully submitted.
  • The submission will be evaluated by the session owner that will accept or reject the abstract based on the session content description. The session owner will be the primary contact person. Session owners must attend in person.
  • Abstracts must be submitted the latest by the announced deadline (15 January 2026). Please note that we will not accept late submissions. Notification of acceptance/rejection will be given in late January/early February

Please note, that proposals can ONLY be submitted via the Oxford Abstracts online submission form. You will have to register as a user in the system. The registration will allow you to return to your submission and make changes before final submission.

Note: Please register with the email you use on a daily basis! This is important to avoid lost information and delays.
