Bakkafrost Supports Ocean Night as a Main Sponsor, Showcasing Faroese Food Traditions

We are very pleased to announce that Bakkafrost will serve as one of the main sponsors of the UArctic Congress 2026 and the Ocean Connectivity Conference in Tórshavn, with their support dedicated to the Ocean Night closing reception. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to sustainable development, responsible food production, and the stewardship of natural resources in the Arctic.
As a leading producer of high-quality salmon from the Faroe Islands and Scotland, Bakkafrost has deep roots in the North Atlantic and plays an important role in the region’s economy and food systems. With a strong focus on sustainability, fish welfare, and environmental responsibility, the company is a natural partner for the UArctic Congress 2026.
Through its support, Bakkafrost contributes to showcasing local food traditions and will play a key role in creating a memorable Ocean Night experience. This partnership aligns with the Congress’s ambition to highlight Arctic resources, culture, and sustainable industries as part of a broader dialogue on development in the region.
Below, Bakkafrost shares their perspective on the partnership and their role as a main sponsor of the UArctic Congress 2026:
As one of the main sponsors of UArctic Congress 2026, Bakkafrost is proud to support a platform that brings together researchers, decision-makers, businesses, and institutions to strengthen knowledge, cooperation, and sustainable development in the Arctic.
For Bakkafrost, this is a natural partnership. As a Faroese company with deep roots in the North Atlantic, we believe that responsible food production, strong local communities, and healthy oceans must go hand in hand.
Sustainability is central to how we operate. Across our integrated value chain, we focus on producing healthy, high-quality salmon with full traceability and responsible use of resources. At the same time, we continue to invest in solutions that reduce environmental impact – from water recirculation in hatcheries and circular use of bio-waste through our biogas plant FÖRKA, to innovation in low-emission vessels and ambitious climate targets, including a 50% reduction of Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 and 52% reduction of Scope 3 emissions per tonne of product sold.
By supporting UArctic Congress 2026, we aim to contribute to dialogue and collaboration on issues that are critical to the future of the Arctic. We look forward to engaging with participants, exchanging knowledge, and exploring new partnerships that can support sustainable development across the region.
We are also pleased to contribute to the closing reception, Ocean Night, where participants will have the opportunity to taste salmon from Bakkafrost. Supporting the Congress reflects our commitment to collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and the responsible development of the North Atlantic.
